After wandering through the town by the riverbank – the children were very friendly as were their parents – we came to a traditional sweet making factory. Several local delicacies were on offer including the opportunity to make rice pancakes and to try snake wine (See photo). If you don’t know by now you will soon that the Vietnamese eat virtually anything that moves, crawls, swims or slithers!! Snake wine is revered as a traditional medicine and the photo shows our guide with said snake! He was a bit of a wide boy and claims that as a teenager he was forced to swallow two cobra hearts!!! I’m afraid when it came to tasting I declined and having a snake draped round your neck was definitely another “No, No”!! I did however indulge in the sweet-coated popped rice and some tea.
