A short boat ride brought us to the main market at around 4.00pm when the locals start their shopping for the evening meal. I told you they like everything fresh so the market was full of poultry and flapping fish of many varieties, writhing snakes and more! The fish once caught are kept in holds aboard the traditional fishing boats that have holes in their hulls so that fresh water can pass through thus keeping the fish alive.
Whilst I have seen fresh markets in China nothing prepared me for the range of local delicacies on offer and certainly not in a tropical rainstorm. The locals just watched in amazement as this group of bedraggled tourists sporting pink coloured capes passed along this market that seemed never ending to me!
Sorry no photos, tropical rain and expensive digital cameras don’t mix!!
A memorable visit but not necessarily for the right reasons!
