Sorry hit a technical glitch so have had to upload this one directly online.
We had
hardly finished lunch when there was the sound of dozens of anchor chains being
released from the flotilla of junks as we arrived at Tiptop (Or was it Monkey)
Island? The choice was to relax on the
beach or to climb the 400 steps to the summit of the mountain and descend in 45
minutes before the junk left!! This
proved to be something of an ‘iron man’ challenge up a winding, narrow pathway
with steps of very unequal heights, a flimsy and rope handhold that provided
little or no support – especially on the descent. In the heat and humidity I
really wasn’t sure I was going to make it and by the time I reached the summit
I was gasping for breathe but with only minutes to spare I took these stunning
photos whilst wheezing and gasping to get my breathe back.
With
dodgy knees and shaking muscles the descent as ever proved rather frightening
to say the least but I made it in time to take the boat back to the junk and on
reflection pleased that I had made the ascent to enjoy the views.
